Canby 82, YME 63
GRANITE FALLS — Cayden Anderson notched a double-double on Tuesday night to lead the Canby boys basketball team past Yellow Medicine East for its first win of the season on Tuesday. Despite facing a 31-27 halftime deficit, the Lancers rallied to score 55 second-half points and claim an 82-63 win.
Anderson grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and his 18 points on 8 of 14 shooting were second only to Jack Abrahamson’s 20 points on 6 of 17 shooting.
Also contributing, Will Abrahamson and Owen Peterson chipped in another 15 and 14 points respectively.
Jack Abrahamson also dished out four assists and tied Will with six rebounds.
Jacob Peterson finished as YME’s leading scorer with 21 points and four assists while Gavin Torvik and Eric Jimenez each added another 11 points.
Wakinyan GreyCloud logged five assists and a team-high six rebounds.
Canby improves to 1-18 with the win while Yellow Medicine East falls to 2-19 with the loss. Canby will host Renville County West (14-5) on Friday at 7:15 p.m. for its next game while YME will go on the road to take on Minneota (7-12) at the same time.
No. 2 Dawson-Boyd 86, KMS 54
DAWSON — Gunnar Liebl was a forced to be reckoned with for the Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team on Tuesday night. The junior guard scored a game-high 30 points on 14 of 20 shooting, leading the Blackjacks to an 86-54 win over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.
Liebl also dished out a game-high seven assists on one turnover, and snagged four steals on the defensive end. His six rebounds were second only to Drew Hjelmeland’s 11.
Hjelmeland also dished out four assists and scored 15 points on 7 of 13 shooting, putting him second on the team in both categories. Jaxton Hastad also made five of his nine field goal attempts for 12 points.
Hjelmeland and Hastad each blocked a pair of shots while Carson Stratmoen recorded a pair of steals.
Senior forward and SMSU commit Brayson Boike was unavailable for the game.
Dawson-Boyd improves to 16-3 on the year and looks to pick up its seventh consecutive win on Friday when it goes on the road to take on Ortonville (4-15) at 7:30 p.m.
TMB 71, Minneota 54
MINNEOTA — After holding a narrow 2-point lead at halftime, the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team locked down defensively after the break against Minneota on Tuesday. The Panthers maintained their first-half scoring trajectory while nearly cutting Minneota’s points in half as they captured a 71-54 win.
TMB led 36-34 heading into the locker room, but outscored Minneota by 15 in the second half.
Trevor Smith led the Panthers offensively with 24 points on 8 of 16 shooting. His three 3-pointers made were second only to Griffin Zick, who shot 4 of 10 from beyond the arc for 14 points.
Alex Munson also finished in double figures with 12 points. His five assists on just one turnover and his 10 total rebounds were both team-highs, while Smith contributed another nine rebounds.
Lincoln Jerzak carried the brunt of the scoring load for Minneota, tallying 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting. Leo Hennen and Lucas Rybinski added 13 and 11 points respectively, with Hennen’s seven rebounds also being a team-high.
Minneota struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 5 of 27 compared to 11 of 32 for TMB.
After attaining its fourth consecutive win, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton improves to 16-4 on the season. The Panthers next head to Cottonwood to take on Lakeview (8-11) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Minneota falls to 7-12 on the season and aims to end its three-game skid when it hosts Yellow Medicine East (2-19) for the second of four consecutive home games on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
No. 7 HBC 70, MCC 68
HILLS — Despite a valiant effort from Aidan Swenson, the Murray County Central boys basketball team fell just shy of an upset against Hills-Beaver Creek on Tuesday night. Just a week after losing to the Patriots by 34 points, the Rebels held a 39-37 lead over HBC at halftime before succumbing to a 70-68 loss.
Swenson scored a game-high 24 points on ultra-efficient 12 of 16 shooting, outdueling HBC leading scorer Jamin Metzger’s 20 points. Hudson Schryvers also added 10 points with eight assists on 5 of 11 shooting while Gavin Gillette added 13 points on 5 of 10 shooting.
HBC outrebounded MCC 31-21, including a 16-6 edge on the offensive glass. Swenson finished with a team-high nine total rebounds and four offensive rebounds. He also blocked a shot on the defensive end.
Dylan Kluis finished with four assists for MCC while Gillette, Schryvers and Andrew Holm each logged a pair of steals.
MCC falls to 11-8 and will aim to end its three-game skid when it heads to Tyler to face Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (17-2) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

TYLER — The trio of Paisley Thooft, Avery Schreurs and Makayla Hesse led a well-balanced Russell-Tyler-Ruthton offense on Tuesday night as the Knights picked up a 57-38 win over the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team.
Thooft scored a game-high 15 points on efficient 7 of 12 shooting. Schreurs and Hesse added 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting and 13 points on 5 of 15 shooting respectively, while six other Knights made at least one field goal.
In addition to scoring, Thooft also dished out a game-high five assists with nine rebounds. Dilyn Werkman added four assists and six rebounds while Adalia Matzner tallied three assists and seven rebounds.
For the Panthers, Gretchen Lanoue’s six assists and 11 points were both team-highs. Her seven rebounds also trailed only Melaina Ankrum’s nine, and her six steals tied Melaina Ankrum for a team-high.
The difference in the game was RTR’s efficiency inside. The Knights shot 44% on 2-point attempts compared to TMB’s 24%. RTR also held a slight 28-32 edge in the turnover battle.
Russell-Tyler-Ruthton improves to 10-12 on the year after ending its four-game skid. The Knights will look to inch closer to .500 when they host Hills-Beaver Creek (17-6) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. for the second of three consecutive home games.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton falls to 3-16 with the loss and aims to avoid its fifth consecutive defeat in Thursday’s road matchup against Canby (12-10), slated for 7:15 p.m.
