Marshall was announced as the top seed in the Section 3A tournament on Sunday, marking the Tigers' second consecutive season as the No. 1 seed.

Seeding for the Section 3A girls hockey tournament was announced on Sunday, with the Marshall Tigers earning the top seed in the section for the second season in a row.

Marshall finished its season at 20-3-2. Its 11-1-2 Big South Conference record left it tied with Luverne and Minnesota River for first place in the conference just a year after claiming the Big South title outright for the first time since 2006.

While Minnesota River plays in Section 2A, Marshall and Luverne will need to go through each other for the Section 3A title.

Luverne earned the No. 2 seed in the section. All of the Section 3A coaches voted Marshall or Luverne as the top seeds, with Marshall and Luverne each getting three top seed votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team).

Marshall and Luverne were also the top seeds in 3A last season. The Tigers defeated Windom 6-0 in the semifinals but fell 4-0 to Luverne in the section championship as the Cardinals reached their fifth consecutive state tournament.

Marshall will host the winner of No. 4 New Ulm and No. 5 Worthington on Saturday at Red Baron Arena while Luverne is slated to host the winner of No. 3 Fairmont and No. 7 Windom. The Section 3A championship is slated for Feb. 11 at Gustavus Adolphus College, at a time yet to be determined.

Starting at $4.38/week.
