Marshall routs TCU in regular-season road finale

Prep girls basketball roundup Feb. 14, 2025

No. 3 Marshall 78, TCU 46

MONTGOMERY — While the Star Tribune selected No. 3 Marshall’s road matchup against Tri-City United as the Game of the Week, the Tigers didn’t let the Titans keep it a game for long. Marshall led by 25 points at halftime and never looked back, claiming a 78-46 win.

Heading into the game, the Titans had been hot. Since dropping its first two games of the season, TCU has gone 17-3. Still, Marshall’s depth and versatility gave the Tigers the edge.

Reese Drake led Marshall offensively with 22 points, five assists and five steals, all game-highs. She shot 8 of 13 from the field, knocked down three of her four attempts from 3-point range and finished with no turnovers.

Avery Fahl grabbed a game-high seven rebounds in the win, leading Marshall to a 27-22 advantage on the glass. Paige Gillingham’s two offensive rebounds were a game-high as she tied Drake and Taleigha Bigler for second on the team with four total rebounds.

Avery Schneekloth and Bigler also contributed 15 and 11 points respectively, each also dishing out three assists. Schneekloth shot 7 of 9 from the field and was a perfect 6 of 6 on attempts from inside the arc.

Marshall limited TCU to 38% shooting from the field and forced 17 turnovers. Gillingham, Kezlyn Pinckney and Danielle Nubile each blocked a shot while Fahl and Schneekloth logged three and two steals respectively.

The Marshall girls basketball team (22-1) will now wrap up its regular-season schedule with a pair of home games. The Tigers will host Mankato East (2-19) today at 5 p.m. before concluding the regular-season slate against Sioux Falls Jefferson (S.D.) (7-8) on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Springfield 56, TMB 52

TRACY — Despite a valiant effort, the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team fell just shy of extending its win streak to three games to close out the regular season. The Panthers led Springfield 33-30 at halftime, but the Tigers rallied after the break to top TMB 56-52.

Prior to TMB’s back-to-back wins heading into Friday night, the Panthers had lost six consecutive games. Still, they’ve recouped some positive momentum as they prepare to head into the postseason.

The Panthers spread out their scoring well. Gretchen Lanoue led the team with 13 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, leaving her just shy of a double-double.

Brianna Duscher and Raelynn Schreier each added another 9 and Marin Knott, Allison Edwards and Ella Voss each contributed another 6.

Lanoue, Edwards and Katelyn Ruppert each logged a pair of steals while Ruppert and Schreier each blocked a shot.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (5-19) will now await its seeding for the Section 3A tournament starting next week. The play-in round will be held on Thursday at the home site of the high seed, while the South subsection quarterfinals will be held on Saturday at Worthington High School.

Starting at $4.38/week.
