WWG gets revenge win over Edgerton in 3A South
WORTHINGTON — In a rematch of the last two years’ 3A South subsection semifinals, the fourth-seeded Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team took on No. 5 Edgerton in this year’s subsection quarterfinals. While Edgerton edged the Chargers 53-41 in 2023 and 53-52 in 2024, the Chargers got the last laugh this year with a 41-29 win.
Leah Carter and Riley Parker led the Chargers in the low-scoring affair, finishing with 12 and 11 points respectively.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove improves its record to 19-7 on the season with the win and will now look to upset top-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek tonight at 6 p.m. in Worthington. WWG defeated HBC 46-40 back on Dec. 3 but the Patriots got their revenge with a 59-44 win on Jan. 16.
No. 1 HBC 60, No. 9 TMB 43
WORTHINGTON –The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team’s recent momentum wasn’t enough to upset the top-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots in the 3A South quarterfinals on Saturday. While the Panthers had won three of their last four games after a 3-18 start to the season, their season ended with a 60-43 loss to HBC.
Gretchen Lanoue scored a team-high 11 points, tied Melaina Ankrum with a team-high four steals and tied Ankrum and Allison Edwards with a team-high five rebounds in the loss.
Katelyn Ruppert and Raelynn Schreier added 9 and 8 points respectively for TMB.
The Panthers finish their season at 6-20 and graduate seven seniors in Edwards, Ruppert, Marin Knott, Kyli Carter, Brianna Duscher, Ella Voss and Brooklyn Elsen.
No. 2 A/E 48, No. 7 MCC 42
WORTHINGTON –Despite a valiant effort, the Murray County Central girls basketball team fell shy of upsetting the second-seeded Adrian-Ellsworth Dragons in the 3A South subsection girls basketball quarterfinals on Saturday. The Dragons held on at the end to down the Rebels 48-42.
MCC finishes its season at 9-18 and graduates three seniors in Kelli Miller, Thea Schneider and Taylor Larson.
No. 3 SWMC 65, No. 6 RTR 47
WORTHINGTON — The No. 6 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton girls basketball team couldn’t slow down No. 3 Southwest Minnesota Christian’s offense on Saturday as the Eagles ended the Knights’ season with a 65-47 loss in the 3A South subsection quarterfinals.
RTR finishes the year at 11-16 and graduates four seniors in Dilyn Werkman, Avery Schreurs, Addisyn Serreyn and Adalia Matzner. The team’s finish marks a slight decline from last year’s 13-14 finish.
