Ziemer commits to Concordia XC/TF program
MARSHALL — Madi Ziemer of Marshall High School signed her letter of intent on Wednesday morning to continue her athletic career with the Concordia College cross country and track and field teams of the Division III Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
“Concordia has a very nice campus, they’re very welcoming, and I met my coach [Maddie Van Been] and she was just the sweetest person ever,” Ziemer said. “I also knew that I didn’t want to be done with track after high school and one of my goals was to be able to do it in college.”
Ziemer started competing for the Marshall track and field team as a freshman in 2022, finishing the year with a 200-meter personal record of 30.88 and a 100-meter hurdles PR of 20.81. She’s since also set a 55-meter hurdles PR of 12.83 and a 300-meter hurdles PR of 55.27 in her junior and sophomore seasons respectively.
Ziemer said that her junior season was when she started to feel like competing at the collegiate level was an attainable goal, adding that her desire to continue improving upon her times and meeting new people were also motivating factors for her to keep running.
Academically, Ziemer intends to study exercise science with a minor in psychology. Specifically, she said that she’s looking to become an athletic trainer or a physical therapist due to a desire to help others who have had injury issues like she has.
Concordia College placed eighth in the 2024 MIAC Championship meet and sixth in the outdoor championship meet.
