Marshall girls seeded 3rd at Class AAA tournament
Seeding for the girls basketball state tournament was announced on Saturday, with the Marshall Tigers earning the No. 3 seed in the Class AAA bracket.
As the third seed after winning the Section 2AAA tournament, the Tigers will take on No. 6 Rock Ridge out of Section 2AAA. The game is slated to be played at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Maturi Pavillion in Minneapolis, making it the last of the four Class AAA quarterfinal matchups.
Marshall enters the tournament at 27-1 on the season, its lone loss coming against Orono, which was upset by Benilde-St. Margaret in the Section 7AAA tournament.
Rock Ridge, meanwhile, enters the tournament at 24-5 on the season. The Wolverines have lost just one game to an unranked team this season and has won 17 of its last 18 games since a four-game skid from Dec. 21 to Jan. 4.
The winner of Wednesday’s quarterfinal will play the winner of No. 2 Monticello out of Sectin 5AAA and No. 7 Cretin-Derham Hall out of 3AAA. The winners will play in the semifinals at Williams Arena on Thursday at 2 p.m. while the losers will play at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul.
On the opposite side of the bracket, Benilde-St. Margaret’s earned the 1 seed and will play No. 8 Stewartville while No. 4 DeLaSalle will play No. 5 Alexandria Area.
The state championship is slated to be played at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Williams Arena.
