Canby/Minneota girls win in Monte

MONTEVIDEO — The Canby/Minneota girls track and field team pulled away from the pack at the Montevideo Invitational on Tuesday to earn a first-place finish. The Lancers finished with a team score of 167 points, 40 ahead of runner-up MACCRAY/Renville County West and 74 ahead of third-place Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd. On the boys side, Montevideo won the meet with 160.75 points, followed by Hancock’s 113.75 and LQPV/DB’s 93.75.

The Canby/Minneota boys also placed fifth in the seven-team event with 59.75 points. Yellow Medicine East placed fifth on the girls side with 32 points and sixth on the boys with 58.

Nohemi Diaz earned sprinting victories for Canby in the 100-meter dash and the 100-meter hurdles, Claire Stoks earned a win in the 400-meter run and Mya Pesek picked up a long-distance win for the lancers in the 3200 meters. The Lancers also got a field event win in the long jump from Karlie Wollum, as well as a trio of relay wins in the 4×100, the 4×200 and the 4×400.

Marie Thater and Brynn Gloege earned victories for LQPV/DB in the high jump and the 800 meters, while Klaira Shackelford earned YME’s lone first-place finish in the pole vault.

On the boys side, Brady Dahlager earned a win for YME in the 100-meter dash while Jacob Ullrich got the victory in the shot put. 

LQPV also earned a pair of boys victories from Tanner Kalas in the 400 and Brayson Boike in the triple jump, while Cayden Anderson won the discus for Canby/Minneota.

Canby/Minneota will next compete on Tuesday at Redwood Valley High School at 4 p.m., YME will return to the track on the same day at Tracy-Milroy-Balaton and LQPV/DB will host the Nibbe Invitational at Lac qui Parle Valley High School on April 24 at 4 p.m.

WINDOM MEET

WINDOM — The Murray County Central boys track and field team picked up a win at the Windom meet on Tuesday. The Rebels won their side of the meet with 162 points, well ahead of runner-up Windom Area’s 122, while Wabasso took third with 69 points. Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central also placed fifth with 50 points.

On the girls side, Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey edged out Windom by one point, 104-103. WWG/RRC placed fourth with 89 points to edge out Wabasso by 1, while MCC placed sixth with 20 points.

On the boys side, Lucus Kuball won for MCC in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, and Isaiah Wolske won the shot put. The Rebels also had a first-place relay team in the 4×200-meter.

Bowen Hesse earned a win in the 1600-meter run for WWG/RRC while Zeke Olson won the triple jump for Wabasso.

On the girls side, Wabasso had first-place finishes from Carly Fenger in the 200 meters and Lizzy Morin in the Long jump. RRC/WWG’s Ally Linder and Evelyn Rentschler also won the shot put and 100-meter hurdles, respectively, while MCC’s Holland Vogel won the 1600 meters.

MCC and Wabasso next compete on Tuesday at Tracy-Milroy-Balaton High School while WWG/RRC returns to action on Thursday at the A&W Invite at Mt. Lake Munson Field.
