MINNEOTA — The Minneota baseball team overcame a three-run deficit in a 4-3 win over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Friday with the go-ahead run from Ryan Meagher in the bottom of the seventh inning after stealing home off a wild pitch.
Tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Meagher was given first base off a wild pitch, and reached second with an Eli Gruenes single. Kyson Arndt also got a hit to move Meagher to third base with two outs, and a crucial wild pitch that passed the KMS catcher allowed Meagher enough time to run home and end the game.
Carson Javers also hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to bring Minneota with a run, down 3-2.
Arndt scored a run in the sixth to tie the game up, initially getting on base with being hit by a pitch.
Gruenes and Javers led Minneota with two hits each, while Javers accounted for a pair of RBIs.
Brody Larson pitched the first six innings of the game, finishing with nine strikeouts, three walks and three earned runs. Adam Dalager pitched the final inning with one strikeout and two walks.
Overall, Minneota finished with eight hits and two errors, to KMS’s four hits and one error.
Minneota (6-3) will look for its third straight win when it next hosts Lakeview (0-6) on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Marshall 18, Jordan 2
JORDAN — The Marshall baseball team bounced back from its first loss of the season in dominant fashion with an 18-2 win over Jordan Hubmen Friday evening.
Chase Alcorn led the Tigers with three hits in his three at-bats, scoring two runs with two RBIs.
Marshall put the game away behind an eight-run fourth inning, and finished the night off with another seven in the final inning.
Jordan scored its two runs in the first inning, and was held runless the rest of the night.
Andrew Stelter also had three hits on the night, while Leyton Wherry accounted for a team-high three runs. Both Stelter and Eli Weedman shared a team-best three RBIs as well.
Weedman had the biggest hit of the night for Marshall with a triple, while Alcorn and Braxton Koster each had a double.
Josh Kraft, Owen Kesteloot, Logan Miller and Clayton Jones all spent time on the mound, while Kestel threw the most of three innings. Both him and Miller, who threw for two innings, each finished with four strikeouts.
Marshall (7-1) will look to get its revenge when it travels to New Ulm on Monday at 5:30 p.m. The Eagles recently handed the Tigers their first loss on Tuesday, 6-1.
TMB 8, E/SWMC 6
EDGERTON — Trevor Smith pitched 11 strikeouts with no walks or earned run as the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton baseball team came out on top in an 8-6 win over Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian Friday evening.
Smith pitched the entire game except the final inning, when David Schuh stepped in to finish the game off with two strikeouts, two walks and four earned runs.
The game was tied 2-2 until the Panthers came out hot for a six-run fifth inning to give them just enough edge to survive Edgerton’s four-run seventh inning.
Taylor Squires and Schuh led TMB with two hits apiece, while Schuh and Connor Lanoue each had two runs as well. Sanow had a team-high three RBIs.
Both teams finished with seven hits and two errors.
Aiden Sanow, Lanoue and Squires each had a double on the night as well.
TMB had bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning during its rally with Sanow hit his double to score three runs to give the Panthers a 7-2 lead.
TMB (5-4) will return home next to host MACCRAY on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
RRC/WWG 5, YME 0
GRANITE FALLS — The Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove baseball team scored all five of its runs in the first two innings while playing a defensively strong game in a 5-0 shutout win over Yellow Medicine East Friday evening.
The Falcons finished with two hits and no errors to the Sting’s two hits and one error.
RRC/WWG scored three runs in the first inning followed up with another two in the second, and never allowed YME to get any offensive momentum going.
Carter Therkilsen and Jake Erick each had a hit to lead RRC/WWG, with Erickson accounting for an RBI, while Braden Nelson and Gavin Torvik shared the two runs for YME.
Austin Imker pitched 6 1/3 inning for the Falcons with 11 strikeouts and three walks, while Abraham Stavnes finished up the final two outs of the game with a strikeout.
For the Sting, Torvik pitched the first three innings with five strikeouts and two walks, while allowing two earned runs. Jacob Peterson stepped in as relief the final four innings with seven strikeouts and no walks, hits or runs.
YME (4-3) will next hit the road to take on Renville County West on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
RRC/WWG (4-3) continues on a four-game road trip and heads to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
YME 9, LQPV 2
GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East baseball team bounced back for a win in its second game of a doubleheader Friday night, defeating Lac qui Parle Valley 9-2 behind a six-run third inning.
The Sting built up an 8-2 lead after the first three innings, and held LQPV scoreless the final four to help secure the win.
Gunnar Fagen pitched nearly the entire game for 6 2/3 innings, and finished with four strikeouts, two walks and two earned runs.
The Sting finished with 10 hits and two errors, to LQPV’s seven hits and one error.
Braden Nelson pitched for the final out of the game.
Nelson, Drew Monson and Eric Jimenez all shared a team-high two hits for YME, while Jacob Peterson had three RBIs.
YME (4-3) next travels to Renville County West on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
