Mustang track and field wins Luther Norse Invitational
DECORAH, Iowa – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s and men’s track & field put together a solid day at the Norse Invite hosted by Luther College with both teams earning team titles.
The women’s team earned first place with 149 points, while the men’s team captured first place with 192 points.
For the men’s team, Deekon Anvid won the discus with a toss of 50.75m.
Greg Schafer crossed the line first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.1, while Cody Evers won the 110-meter hurdles at 15.34. Evers also won the 400-meter hurdles at 58.64.
Tyler Smith captured first in the 200 meters at 22 seconds with Max Schmitt in third place at 22.78.
Jacob Kunkel cleared 1.95 to win the high jump, while teammate Peda Zeba recorded a mark of 13.85 in the triple jump to pick up a first-place finish.
Tyler Nebelung earned second in the hammer throw with a personal best 49.34m, while Anvid was second with a personal best 47.25m. Nebelung also recorded a second-place toss in the shot put at 13.93m.
Colton Johnson recorded a mark of 6.43m in the long jump to finish second.
Nadia Sanford captured first in the discus with a personal best 43.97m and was second in the hammer throw at 44.78m. Sanford also won the shot put 12.98m.
Sierra Clifford won the 400 meters with a time of 58.73.
Jada Backes earned first place in the 400-meter hurdles crossing the line at 1:07.02.
Allison Watts finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.59 with teammate Ella Doble earning second in 200 meters at 26.32.
Rainbow Stands picked up a second-place finish in the high jump at 1.55m.
Macie Langstraat earned third place in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:57.87.
SMSU will next compete on April 12 at the Minnesota State Open in Mankato.
